Product Information
After celebrating Irish poets Oscar Wilde and James Joyce, as well as Canadian writer Mordecai Richler, Ex Libris now turns to Brittany, the birthplace of French whisky, and highlights three versions of Kornog, the illustrious peated single malt from the Celtic Whiskey Distillery.
And to accompany this series, who better than Yvon le Men, (Alias the poet of Trégor) Goncourt prize for poetry in 2019 for his entire work. The man, in addition to being talented, was born in Tréguier, that is to say a few minutes from L’Armor Pleubian where, 50 years later, Martine and Jean Donnay will install the Glann ar mor distillery which will become the Celtic whiskey distillery when it was bought by Maison Villevert in 2020.
The three single casks therefore bear witness to a bygone era of the distillery.
“Québec Part Dans le Ciel”, an 8-year-old Kornog is a rustic single malt, offering a saline and ethereal peat with menthol and lemony nuances. With a long and firm finish, it offers a remarkable minerality on a floral, fruity and mentholated background that ends with a finely chocolatey peat.
More exotic, “The Weight of a Cloud”, a 10-year-old, shines with its delicate notes of pineapple and persimmon that mingle with an elegant peat with accents of chlorophyll. On the freshness, it evolves on notes of lime and juicy pear before ending on a licorice, iodine and vanilla peat.
“Une Île en Terre”, a 12-year-old, concludes the triptych with delicacy. Oscillating between herbaceous notes, dried peat, brioche and candied fruits, the single malt shines with its complexity. Evolving slowly in the glass, the whiskey becomes cereal, it evokes strands of fresh barley caressed by the sea spray of the English Channel.
Three single casks as poetic as the works from which they take their name, a real invitation to reopen a collection of poems.
